May 26, 2021
On May 26, 2021, the 3rd International Moscow Academic Economic Forum organized by the Free Economic Society of Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the International Union of Economists opened in Russia.

Shrinking GDP, household incomes, and corporate resources raise the question of how to achieve national development goals, taking into account the economic and social shocks that were triggered by the pandemic and the accompanying economic shocks. This year, the Forum is titled "The Global Transformation of Modern Society and the National Development Goals of Russia."

The Forum was opened by its Co-Chairs — Alexander Sergeyev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Sergey Bodrunov, President of the Free Economic Society of Russia, President of the International Union of Economists.

Alexander Sergeyev noted that the Moscow Academic Economic Forum is dedicated to finding new opportunities for the development of the Russian economy and using those efficiently.

"The covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on economic processes, some of the problems have become aggravated, some, on the contrary, have been resolved faster. In a sense, this has caused a deviation from the slow growth trajectory and a transition to a different one, which we cannot yet clearly define. We are the architects of our new trajectory for economic development. Much will depend on new decisions being made in the economy. In the course of decision-making, a wide range of expert opinions is in great demand," said the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Sergey Bodrunov emphasized that the MAEF traditionally brings together experts and scientists from the regions of Russia and foreign countries. On its first day, 3000 experts joined the Forum. The total number of participants is 7,500. Among them are experts and scientists from 32 countries of the world — Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, UK, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Denmark, India, Canada, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cuba, Moldova, the Netherlands , Syria, Turkey, USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Switzerland, Estonia, Czech Republic, Chile, Japan, and Russia.

The President of the VEO of Russia also reminded that 63 regional venues in 41 regions of the Russian Federation opened as part of the Forum from 17 to 25 May.
